Florida's Climate and Amish Furniture
Florida's weather and climate pose interesting problems for solid wood furniture. The problem being too much humidity! When the average humidity is hanging out around 75 or 80% wood swells and that can cause problems with tight slides on tables, buckling joints on case goods and other problems. Something else to consider is that when wood stays wet for to long it begins to rot and mold. While I dont think will be much of a problem it's something to think about. Something else to consider is that amish furniture can split or crack when there are large changes in humidity. If it's been at 70% humididty for years then you get one of those crazy cold snaps that last a week your furniture can split and split quickly.No matter where you live in Florida, Key West to Pensacola, Jacksonville to Clearwater you need to be mindful of the humidity , too much that is. So de-humidifier may be a good way to go. The other thing is that in the central and pan handle regions there have been alot of droughts lately which of course necessitate the use of a humidifier to keep your Amish furniture in good condition.
